There are 2 types of codes that Louis Vuitton uses - The Product ID and the Date Code

    Product ID number:

The first is the product ID.  This is the code to tell you the style of the bag.
Example: Monogram Speedy 30 is M41526
This number will appear on the tag that comes with the bag  but will NEVER appear on the bag.

    __________________________________________________ ________________________________________

    DATECODE
This is the code that is inside the bag.  It will most likley consist of 2 letters followed by 4 numbers.
    ----------------------------------------------

    2007 - present
2 letters followed by 4 numbers.

The letters represent the factory where the bag was made - for example SD = San Dimas, California USA.

followed by 4 numbers - these represent the week and the year:
    The 1st and 3rd = the week
    the 2nd and 4th = the year

    So 5 0 0 7 =  50th week in '07

SD5007 = Made in the USA the 50th week of 2007

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

    1990's - 2007

    2 letters followed by 4 numbers --
again the letters represent the factory (country)
And the numbers represent the month and the year:
    The 1st and 3rd = the month
    the 2nd and 4th = the year

    0 9 1 5 = 1st month of '95

    TH0915 = Made in France, January 1995

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

    The 1980's

The Eighties is when LV started using datecodes.

In the early 80's it consisted of only numbers -- 3 (or 4) numbers that represented the year and the month.

    So:  851 = 1st month of 1985,   or if it said: 8511 = 11th month of 1985

    Datecode Letters by country.

The letters on your datecode should match up with the heatstamp.
Example - if it says Made in France it shouldn't have CA in the datecode (Spain)

This is always changing as LV adds new factories -- let me know if you have an authentic bag with a different set of letters on it =)

FRANCE: A0, A1, A2, AA, AN, AR, AS, AX, BA, BJ, BU, CT, DU, ET, FL,GR, LW, MB, MI, NO,
RA, RI, SD, SL, SN, SP, SR, TH, TJ, TR, TS, VI, V.I.

USA: FC, FH, OS, LA, SD (France & USA can have SD)

Spain: CA, CR, LB, LM, LO, LW

Italy: BO, CE, FO, RE, MA, RC, RO, SA, TD

    Switzerland: DI, FA

If I may add that Date Codes can also differ from what has been posted above if its a special order.

I'm confused?! I have just purchased a Petit Noe from Ebay that has a date code XXX934. Should I be concerned?

I'm probably being daft but I'm paranoid about being scammed on Ebay. I nearly bought a new Petit Noe (£560) but saw a secondhand one on Ebay for £201 so I purchased it. Amour Couture kindly verified its authenticity for me (which I was happy with otherwise I wouldn't have bought it) but the date code issue has thrown me?

Please confirm that I have "lost the plot?!" & need to lie down & hopefully look forward to the postie arriving with my Petit Noe!

PS Please don't take offence AmourCouture - I am PARANOID & just want reassurance...............

I just looked your auction you listed and while I agree with AC that this is authentic you can not read the date code as it looks to be completely worn off or is dirty. The seller is mistaken on its date code. I think they just could not read it so they put XXX infront of the numbers you can see. But if you get the bag and want to take additional photos for us please do so and post them in the "authenticate this LV...." thread.

Thanks so much! I will examine my purchase with microscopic precision & if not 100% satisfied, I will post again in The "Authenticate this LV" thread.

Again, I stress that I meant no disrespect to AC, it's just the date code thing threw me completely when I had just relaxed about my purchase. A few years ago when I was much less enlightened (before I discovered this forum & legitimate secondhand designer stores), I bought a Prada handbag & a Gucci handbag that were supposed to be authentic. The sick feeling I felt, a few months down the line when I discovered that they were both fake was so awful, to say nothing of the sick feeling that I had wasted several hundred pounds, it has made me very very wary.

Anyway - I apologise for going off topic..............

I just wanted to add something to all of this. On certain special LV pieces these so-called date codes are not date codes at all. They are internal numbers used by LV that have nothing to do with when the bag was actually made. HTH!

I acquired a LV monogram Montsouris backpack via my sister in law. I dont know if its real & didnt ask. The date code says HP 1010 and it was made in France. Does this sound fake to you? I cannot find an HP date code anywhere.

If you post pics of the bag in the Authenticate this LV thread, one of the authenticators will be able to assist you.
