Reference: Chloe Paddington bag - Authentic vs Fake - Pics!

Having unfortunately purchased a fake Chloe paddington when I knew nothing about Chloe, I had some pictures around that I thought would make a great guide.

So here is a fake off white paddington, compared to an authentic Brun 07 Chloe Paddington.

First up - the way the bag sits.

Authentic Chloes tend to puddle a little - the padlock falls into a nice comfy cushion of leather. The Brun paddy is an 07 so it's not the smooshiest of paddingtons but you can see the difference between it and the fake when both sit empty.

You can also see in this picture the different in the "Chloe" heatstamp on the padlock - notice how it is petite on the authentic bag but takes up a lot more space on the fake and almost looks as if it is in bold font. The fake imprint is much deeper than the stamp on the authentic padlock.

Another thing to note is the placement of the stitching - on an authentic bag it's right up near the edge of the leather, on the fake you can see it's almost in the middle, the spacing is all wrong.

The padlock is another giveaway on fakes.

    Clipboard011S.jpg

The base of the padlock sits flush where on the fake you can see the base is poking away from the padlock.

The screws used on authentic Chloes just have the one groove in them - in this terrible fake you can see the screws are like normal phillips head screws, like little stars.

The placement of the keyhole is another giveaway. On authentic Chloes when the "Chloe" text on the padlock is facing upwards, the keyhole will make a little "tree" shape, with the round bit on the top like leaves and the straight bit at the bottom, like a tree trunk. Fakes will appear "upside down", even though both padlocks have the Chloe heatstamp facing upwards.

Inside of the handles is another pointer to look out for.

    Clipboard033S.jpg

Most fakes have a little "ball" of stuffing inside the handles, where the authentic bags taper off gently and don't have a pronounced "ball" shape at all.

On the fake you can see the back of the rivet on the handle, on the authentic one you can see the handle covers it.

    Chloe plate inside the bag

    Clipboard055s.jpg

You can tell the difference in quality on the Chloe stamped hardware, especially on the Chloe plate inside the bag.

On the fake you can see the hardware is an orange-y colour and very very shiny. The authentic bag hardware looks more "matte".

On the fake you can see indentations coming away from the Chloe stamp. The Chloe stamp looks "etched" on and the letters are uneven - see how the "o" and "e" look higher up than the "Chl"
On the authentic bag the Chloe stamp is perfectly clear and with no indentations around it. It all lines up, all the letters go along one line.

The rivets at the corner of the plate are a giveaway too - on the fake they are smashed in and overhang off the palate. On the Authentic bag they are smooth and perfectly rounded, and while they are at the edge of the plate they don't hang over.

Another example of the Chloe stamps on the hardware - on the side buckles and the key

    Clipboard044S.jpg

On the fake you can again see that the Chloe looks etched on rather than stamped on, it is much more uneven.

On the authentic bag you can see the letters are even and have a "stamped" appearance.

Would love to fill this thread out with more tips or pics if anyone has some and wants to add

Hi mica, I did a quick look at her paddy today, actually I think I'm 99% sure it's fake, I asked her if I can look at her padlock LOL..my excuse was that I like the way her padlock is smaller than mine and that hers was silver, and I am sure I saw the wrong type of screw and the way the key hole was, he he, naughty of me, tricking her to let me take a look at her bag.. ha ha ha

Ah DSLM the paddington detective! I am so sad to hear the bag is not authentic though, that poor lady! Has she spoken to you any more about authenticity? I wouldn't know what to say if she asked, especially if the bag was a gift!
